The short version
Second Guess does not collect, transmit, or share any of your data. The app has no internet permission, so it is not technically capable of sending anything anywhere.
What the app stores
Everything you enter — expense amounts, categories, notes, want-list items and your budget settings — is stored in a private database on your own device, in the app’s sandboxed storage. No one else, including the developer, can read it.
What the app sends
Nothing. The Android manifest does not declare the INTERNET permission, which means the operating system will not allow the app to open a network connection under any circumstances. There is no account, no login, no analytics SDK, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no third-party service of any kind.
Backups
You may optionally choose a folder for backups. The app writes a backup file through Android’s Storage Access Framework — the system file picker. If you choose a folder belonging to a cloud service such as Google Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox, that service’s own app performs the upload and that service’s privacy policy applies to the stored file. Second Guess itself never contacts those services. You can also encrypt backup files with a passphrase that only you know; that passphrase is never stored.
Permissions the app requests
- Notifications — to send the one daily reminder you configure. Optional; the app works without it.
- Run at startup — to re-schedule that daily reminder after your phone reboots.
Children
The app is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone.
Deleting your data
Settings → Delete all entries removes every expense and want-list item. Uninstalling the app removes everything, including your settings. Backup files you wrote to a folder of your own are yours to delete.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted at this same address.
